How To Control Sexual Crimes

More disturbing is the news about sexual assaults  on little innocent children. Imagine a 3 year old girl in Bangalore , getting raped twice in her school itself ! Such a horrendous act !  No amount of punishment can restore the child’s integrity back to  normalcy. Now , why do such things happen? What best can be done to reduce such incidents? Government has tried out whatever they can think of like increased punishment, summary justice, CCTV surveillance etc. But they have proved to be of little help as the potential rapist is not scared of even capital punishment while committing the crime. Then,  what really helps? To find out what can help, we need to know the real reason behind such crimes.

 Anatomy Of a Crime

Any crime starts with the birth of ‘intention’ to commit the crime.The’intention’sometimes, is born and nurtured in the mind for a time of incubation.The resultant crime in such cases is called as ’pre-meditated’  crime. Sometimes it could be ‘ an instant emotional response’ to a situation. For example, a ‘murder’ committed by some one during a violent quarrel is different from a ’pre-meditated’ crime.
Let us take another example. A sexually-charged male might have been looking for an opportunity to vent it out. He might spot a  gullible victim in the right situation and commit a rape, exploiting the available situation. Whatever be the crime, it can start only from the mind.This ‘criminal intention’ to commit the crime, is called ‘mens real in Law. Now let us see how a ‘criminal intention’is born in the mind, how it is incubated and how it matures into a crime.

Seeds Of Crime

The criminal intention to commit a crime is seeded by certain inducing thoughts, actions etc. For example, in case of sexual crimes watching porn movies, lusty songs, cabaret dances, erotic scenes, erotic literature etc can become seeds of lust. Regular watching can charge the person fully and turn him into a ‘potential rapist’,waiting for the right opportunity.

The Physiology And Psychology of Sex in Men

Sigmund Freud, the famous Austrian  psycho- analyst of 19 th century said that ‘libido’ (ie,the sex- drive ) is the prime driving force behind all actions of human life.While females have limited reproductive span, male sexuality practically lasts their life time. Male sexual drive is aggressive as reflected by the aggressive journey of the sperm towards the ovum, after the intercourse is over. On the other hand, the ovum, passively waits for the right sperm to penetrate and fertilise it.

Male sexuality is directed towards mature females generally but may pounce on any female at times. As soon as the sperms are produced in the male reproductive system, it seeks an immediate discharge . It is at this point of time, even a small spark like a touch of female body or even a thought sex, can trigger a flash action towards sex.

So How To Control Sexual Crimes?

Now that we know how  these crimes get seeded ,incubated and  triggered and what triggers it, we can chalk out a plan of action, to control sexual crimes effectively. Let us remember that enhanced punishment, CCTV etc. does little in reduction of sexual crimes. Similarly expecting others to do something in the matter also does not help.

So, Let us

Control sowing  seeds of lust !

Indulging in Porn movies, love chats, movies with lusty songs, erotic scenes, erotic literature etc.are seeds of lust and needs to be controlled.

Beware of disguised seeds,as well !

Sometimes seeds of lust will parade as something else.  Books like Photography books ,Health books,mythology, art, literature , sex manuals, commercial advertisements, etc can contain such hidden seeds. Be alert and avoid such material. Jesus Christ said that if one looks at a woman with lustful intention, he has already committed adultery in his heart ! But unfortunately, today we find few advertisements virtually enticing every viewer to commit visual adultery.

We are responsible for what we do;we cannot blame others

The change you want to see in others should start from you ! 

We Should Feel responsible for our women – folk, as well !

In civil law there is a concept called  ‘Contributory Negligence’ which means’ any negligence , on the part of the  complainant/victim,  contributing to the accident happening ‘.There is also a Latin legal maxim’ res ipsa loquitur ‘ which means “the thing speaks for itself” . We should  sensitise our daughters/sisters etc. on the above points and ask them  to avoid taking undue risks. For example, even as a male, I would not dare to go out in mid night. We should make them understand that when predators are on prowl, its wise for the prey to take cover to save itself.
Ultimately we should realize that controlling this kind of crimes is not the sole responsibility of the Police or Government or the Law .It is more to do with me and you ! To be more precise, it is more to do with us, our eyes, our hearts and our hands! After all,a towering inferno  can never be quenched by spraying a little water from one end and a loads of petrol from the other end.
